Unlike what most think, kindergarten isn't just playing and playdough anymore. We are adding, subtracting, writing (A LOT) and doing what we used to do in first grade. MLK
While we were learning about MLK we were also learning about how to write a factual paper. The kids had a lot of fun with this project, as did I. I thought they would enjoy the portrait part of it more than the writing but it was the other way around. The kids were excited about showing what they learned about MLK. Here are two of the finished products:

I think that something cool about this assignment is that the students had to create a picture or an image that went along with their thoughts. I think linking a visual with text is a great way for students to increase their learning. It is also more meaningful for them because they are creating and using their imagination--such an important skill at a young age.
